This Diploma course offers two years of intensive practical training in singing, acting and dance/movement, providing you with all the skills required to become an outstanding, versatile, multi-skilled Musical Theatre performer. We believe that performing takes regular and frequent practice and we facilitate this in all of our courses by keeping numbers of participants strictly limited to a maximum of 18 students. You will frequently have the opportunity to sing and perform as a solo artist. At Associated Studios we are passionate about Musical Theatre and have forged strong and trusted links with industry professionals over many years. We pride ourselves on understanding industry requirements and having a network of dedicated and highly experienced theatre practitioners, ready to offer you help and advice whilst you are studying with us, and afterwards.

The first term will develop your core skills with modules including:

ACTING: Text classes, Acting Method, Improvisation, Clowning, Shakespeare Text Into Song, Sonnets and Speeches, Sight-reading, Audition Technique

After your Easter Break, which will be from Thursday 6th April – Saturday 6th May, you will begin a 3-week Production period. There will be no normal classes in these 3 weeks. We will be working on a Musical Theatre Production to which agents and casting directors will be invited as well as friends of AS and your own friends and family. This is usually be double-cast in order to give all students a chance to learn a larger role. Students will be introduced to the rigours and disciplines of a professional company rehearsal process.
Students will be given further practical advice on marketing tools, including photos and CVs. You will be given guidance with regards to your strengths and your ideal casting. Appropriate audition repertoire will be chosen for each student. As Associated Studios works closely with the profession, industry trends and upcoming shows are always taken into account.
Singers will also get the chance to record a demo tape in one of London’s top recording studios for use of self promotion, and upload to casting sites such as Spotlight.
This intensive period of study culminates with a West End Showcase performance to which industry professionals, including Agents and Casting Directors, are invited.
